Keynote Speaker

Eric McElvenny is an engaging communicator and an expert in teaching resilience.

In 2006, Eric graduated from the United States Naval Academy, preparing to serve as a Marine Corps Infantry Officer. Over the course of his military career, he deployed three times, but it was during his final tour in Afghanistan that he faced a life-altering moment—stepping on an IED, which resulted in the amputation of his right leg. This devastating injury marked the beginning of a new and transformative journey.

Determined to overcome his physical challenges and uncertain future, Eric made a promise to himself: he would complete an Ironman Triathlon. Not only did he fulfill that promise, but he also went on to complete eight Ironman Triathlons, including the prestigious World Championships in Kailua-Kona Hawaii. Eric then became a two-time Paralympian proudly representing the United States in both Tokyo, Japan and Paris, France.

Throughout his extraordinary journey, Eric discovered that the adversity he faced and the strategies he employed to cross the finish line could be applied to the challenges we all encounter in life. When he’s not training, racing, or inspiring others, Eric enjoys spending time with his wife, Rachel, and their three children in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
