Tomorrow needs more technically skilled professionals. Middle School Educators are invited to attend this week long, paid, residential STEM camp at Pennsylvania College of Technology that aims to create an awareness of and exposure to realities of upcoming workforce needs and career entry points related to construction and manufacturing. The goal is to expand the knowledge of educators to include hands-on and STEM education in the middle school classroom. This project is funded by a PASmart Grant.

    • What: STEM Careers Re-Imagined: Middle School Educator Externship. For educators in the following counties: Bradford, Clinton, Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Potter, Snyder, Sullivan, Tioga, Union
    • Where: Pennsylvania College of Technology, Williamsport, PA
    • When: July 24-28, 2023
    • How much: Educators will be paid up to $2000 ($1,000 for attending camp, $1,000 for submitting a vetted and shared lesson plan)

The concepts of this camp are design and build. Educators will receive a mobile lab kit including a 3D printer, explore the new science standards, test 3D learning standards, learn how to bring hands-on learning to the classroom, and network with college faculty, industry partners, and other educators. After the camp, they will have access to an educator curated lesson bank, an equipment lending library, industry tours for students, and a student showcase.

Did you remember to spring ahead this morning?! We were researching the history of Daylight Savings Time (DST) this week and were surprised to learn that although the adoption of the current DST is just roughly 100 years old, similar practices were adopted by ancient civilizations thousands of years ago. To align daily routines with solar time, for instance, Roman water clocks featured several weights for the various months of the year.

DST in the United States was originally adopted to conserve energy and make better use of daylight. Today, DST can feel as though it was created for the sole purpose of disrupting the sleep/wake cycle. Learn more about the history of DST here!
